CABA Award for Shaka Rising

I am very pleased to announce that my comic book Shaka Rising has been named an Honor Book For Older Readers, by the Children’s Africana Book Awards (CABA).

From the CABA website:

“The Children’s Africana Book Awards (CABA) are presented annually to the authors and illustrators of the best children’s and young adult books on Africa… CABA has three major objectives (1) to encourage the publication of children’s and young adult books that contribute to a better understanding of African societies and issues, (2) to recognize literary excellence, and (3) to acknowledge the research achievements of outstanding authors and illustrators.
The awards are presented in three categories: Young Children, Older Readers an New Adult (books marketed to adults but suitable for mature teens).”

This is a prestigious award and a great honour for Shaka Rising, the publisher StoryPress Africa, and myself as the writer and artist.

I will be heading to Washington DC next year for the awards ceremony and potentially some book tours and school visits, where I will be talking to learners about the book, its creation, and some of the amazing history of Southern Africa.

Thank you to StoryPress Africa for their commitment to bringing African stories to a global audience, and for giving me the opportunity to work on the saga of Shaka.

Don’t forget, you can order your own copies of Shaka Rising from Amazon, or direct from the publisher’s website here.

The sequel, King Shaka: Zulu Legend will be released worldwide later this year, so watch this space!
