Midlands Literary Festival
Last weekend I was invited to speak at the Midlands Literary Festival just outside Durban, South Africa. Situated in the beautiful hills of KwaZulu-Natal, the festival was a fitting locale to launch my new comic book King Shaka: Zulu Legend, the next title in the African Graphic Novel series from StoryPress Africa.
I was also lucky enough to chat to a class of aspiring writers from local schools, and impart some comic book knowledge to them… They are part of YABI (Young Authors Book Initiative), a very worthwhile project that promotes and publishes the work of school-going scribes – and there is a lot of raw, powerful young writing talent in South Africa!
Thank you to the Festival and the schools for hosting me, it was a true pleasure!
(And thank you to the Midlands for all the fantastic cheese, wine and beer! Made some new animal friends too… :-p )
King Shaka: Zulu Legend & the first book in the series, Shaka Rising, are now available from all good South African bookstores. The new book will also see an international release in October, stay tuned for more info!
